Beginning Latin Class Forming
Learn Latin through the natural method in a friendly and encouraging environment.
We will use Hans Orberg’s classic (and frequently entertaining) book:
Lingua Latina, per se illustrata, Pars 1: Familia Romana
There is no cost for this course, but you need to buy the textbook and bring it to class each week. As of this writing, it was available on Amazon for about $30. I’ve used this book successfully with middle school students – if they can learn from it, I’ll bet you can too.
This class is primarily for adults, but mature teenagers may inquire about participation. We will move at a relaxed pace, suitable for people with careers and families. In addition to the 90-minute weekly class time, 60 minutes a week of outside review is recommended. No prior knowledge of the language is assumed or needed.
There are no tests – the class consists primarily of listening and reading, with explanations provided by the instructor. We start with very easy sentences – Roma est in Italia (Rome is in Italy) – and work our way forward. We will also spend some time speaking the language with each other.
We will meet at:
St. Luke Lutheran Church
2050 N Indian Hill Blvd (corner of Indian Hill and Baseline)
Claremont
Sundays from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m.
Starting October 1, 2017
With the exception of Thanksgiving weekend, we will meet weekly through mid-December and then break for the holidays. If there is continued interest we will resume in January.
