Church Organist at St. Luke:

We are pleased to welcome our new organist and choir director, Martha Mueller. Martha was a classroom teacher for 30 years. To prepare for the teaching profession, Martha earned a Bachelor of Science in music and education at Concordia University, Seward, Nebraska. Later she earned a Master of Arts in music performance at Western Michigan University, specializing in organ performance. Rehearsals for adults interested in joining the choir begin at 7:00 p.m. weekly.  Welcome Martha!  

 

Lutheran Social Services of Southern California reaches out to those in need; they help the homeless, abused and frail.  They reach out to those in need of emergency services, transitional housing, help for the elderly, and much more.  They can be contacted at www.lssc.org or by calling (877) 577-7267. 

Thrivent Build is a coalition of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans with Pomona Valley Habitat for Humanity.  Many volunteers are needed in many categories - contact (909) 865-8782 if you can help. If you know someone who needs a simple, decent, affordable home, contact Habitat for Humanity at (909) 596-7098 to file an application and to see if they are qualified.

There is always a need for assistance from many worldwide disasters, as well as for victims of the fire storm season in Southern California, flooding and tornadoes in the Midwest; hurricanes in the South.  You can reach out to others by contacting the following national service agencies:

  • Lutheran World Relief at www.lcms.org;
  • Orphan Grain Train Katrina or Hurricane Sandy Relief at www.graintrain.org;
  • Southern District LCMS Baton Rouge at their e-mail address of http://southernlcms.org/;
  • Salvation Army Disaster Relief at www.salvationarmyusa.org;
  • American Red Cross at www.redcross.org (they are in desperate need of blood supply reserves); and
  • NAACP Disaster Relief Fund at www.naacp.org.

The American Red Cross can always use blood donations as well as cash donations on a continual basis and for all national disasters. You can call their national hotline at 1-800-435-7669, or go to www.americanredcross.org You can also call any local Chapter Office for local donations.

For Inland Valley relief, contact Inland Valley Hope Partners at www.inlandvalleyhopepartners.org  Your physical and financial help is always needed by this worthy organization to give assistance to the needy in our area all year long.  Their Annual Walk for the Hungry will be held on October 12th.  Financial donations to this worthy organization helps stock their Food Pantry.

The Salvation Army Pomona Corps can be reached at http://www1.usw.salvationarmy.org/usw/www_usw_pomona.nsf/  The Salvation Army is there for those that are in need all year long - you can partner with them by supporting their evangelism and assistance efforts.
